First Efforts in Film

May. 3rd, 2006 | 03:09 am

We have just finished with our film projects here on campus, and I would have to say that the experience has been a positive one overall. I am pleased with the quality of the two films, and look forward to the improvements that we can make next year. I acted as director of one film and grip on the other.

I originally auditioned for a role in the latter film, but was not cast. I was not surprised, because I had not felt very well about the audition. I felt underprepared, and I think that probably showed.

Acting on camera is quite different than on the stage. The camera doesn't lie, and you can't hide from it. If you happen to be having a bad day, it is going to show up on film unless you are very careful. That is something that is challenging me.

Thankfully, I feel much more comfortable now than I did a few months ago. This is due in no small part to the Film Acting class that I just finished. Training really is essential. You have to be training constantly, always working to improve your technique and expand your talents. The time that I've spent in front of the camera this semester is going to be a big help the next time I audition, and I think that next time the camera will record a little bit more genuine confidence.

Who am I?

Apr. 21st, 2006 | 06:43 am

My name is Justin, I am twenty years old and currently live and study in Central Texas. This blog has been created as a way for me to share my experiences as a young actor taking my first steps into show business. In this space I plan to share the steps I am taking and the lessons I am learning, in the hopes that others may benefit from the information.
